11/19/2021 - Crafting the Installation

Today we discussed what we've been working on and hope to have finished in time for Monday's check-in.

Comments

  1. I have been working on designing the visual elements of room #4. I have the UV mappings fixed for all of the curved walls, so they all have a pixel screen default pattern. If it isn't very well received, I'll try to find a better pixel image. It took a while, but I fixed the images for the person's silhouette. I think the purple one looks better than the cyan one because it seems like the curve of the wall is stretching the image a little. I managed to fix it for the most part, so it isn't too noticeable and definitely better than before. I've adjusted all of the projectors that hang from the ceiling trusses, so they actually point to the walls. I have speakers in the space behind the curved walls, since that empty space wouldn't actually be seen as you walk through. I'm not sure what else can go in that space. I also fixed some area and spot lights to make the room feel more aesthetic overall.

  2. I've been trying to find shaders that resemble moving illusions and reflective shaders that look like distorted mirrors. I was able to create a path of mirrors that included stained glass and illusions. One last problem I have is filling out the rest of the room and choosing which images to put in some of the mirrors.

  3. I've been working on instantiating the light ball prefabs and move them randomly within the tunnel. For the instantiating part, I decided to manually create duplicates of the prefab. For the random movement part, I need to fix some coding errors before I proceed. Trying to animate the escalator was a nuance, since I have to separate the individual stair of the model, then animate it.

  4. We met up on Friday as a bonus session to catch up on work. Since the pre-made wall of plants was too intensive for Unity, and I'm desperately trying to avoid manually placing 50+ plants on the wall, this time I tried sculpting the walls into an irregular surface with ProBuilder and then applying a leafy/grass material on top. I subdivided the faces and dragged around the new edges that were generated until the room didn't look as stiff/museum-like. I'm not really sure how I feel about it overall, but it was my first time doing anything major with ProBuilder, so maybe I'm being hard on myself??
