10/25/2021 - Working on our Proof of Concept

Today we continued working on our Unity project and p5.js sketch for the installation.

Comments

  1. We continued working on our SketchUp models for our designated rooms. After some troubleshooting, we were able to export them in a format that could be imported into Unity to begin creating the full floor plan model. I have the basic technical components in for room 4, including the projector screens, projector, lighting rods, and speakers. I still need to add in some more details because right now, it all looks very bland. I don't think we're at a very good place to present on Wednesday, but having until Monday should allow us to create something more cohesive. For the room I'm working on at least, it really just need more details to better portray the user's experience.

  2. Yesterday, we continued working on our models for our rooms. Some manage to troubleshoot their with exporting their models from SketchUp, while others decided to move to another 3d modeling software. In my case, I was designing the room on Blender by adding a moving walkway, speakers, and human cutouts (that was part of the model and will be taken out eventually). I imported the model to my dedicated scene and added a fog in there. My model still needs work after all, which means presenting on Wednesday does not seem ideal, but Monday allows me more time and detail to be added and completed.

  3. I went back to working on Room #4's visuals in p5.js. I forked an OpenProcessing sketch from someone else that draws a monochrome, shapeshifting blob, and started tweaking the code to improve the frame rate & customize the colors. When combined with my body tracking code, it's a bit too intensive for my laptop. It's technically functional enough to present on Wednesday, it just runs kinda choppy.

  4. On Monday's class, I continued to work on Room #2 and it's illusions (and their placement in the room). I struggled with some of SketchUp's controls. I also added an asset of a group of people to show how large the room is. SketchUp doesn't have the best assets so I converted the SketchUp file to a Unity compatible file, and now I'm going to start working in Unity.

  5. I made a tree, again.

As I previously said, I gave up using SketchUp and everything that comes with it, so I modelled a tree in Blender. The idea is that it'll be the literal centerpiece of the room, which will hopefully also exemplify the physical reaction to someone within the room.

  6. I gave up on using sketchup and worked within blender and unity to figure out a way to make the room and then started to look into making the room more unique.
