Today we started our 3D models for the installation. We each have a designated room to model. I am working on Room 4. Using SketchUp is proving to be a bit difficult since I haven’t used the software in a while. So far, I have a box to represent the room, as well as cut-outs for doors. There is a projector and some lights on the wall. I need to spend some more time on the model for it to be at a place where it’s actually good. We’ve also discussed what interactive prototype we can potentially make from what we want the installation to include. We will most likely do something in Processing/p5.js for the silhouette tracking concept in Room 4.
We decided to continue what we had been doing prior and assess what we can do as a physical presentation for the installation. Unfortunately we don't have any of the sensors to try out any of the ideas, but we discussed workarounds. We discussed which room to feature the physical proof of concept as well as divvy up the rooms to work on concept art. We went with SketchUp, but hit a wall when we realized none of us remember how to use it. Also I gave up within the first 10 mins and decided to draw it out instead. But I forgot that I can't draw. So all I did was look up how to draw a tree.
Eventually, after class I drew up a rough draft of I figured would go in the room.
On Wednesday‘s class, our group made small edits so we could finalize our floor plan, and we started to model the installation’s rooms on SketchUp. I started the model for Room #2, The Constant State of Flow. I can admit that I struggled on the construction of the room due to not using SketchUp for over two years, but I was able to construct the room itself with two doors and a kaleidoscope wall art asset added in. I need to look for more assets in SketchUp's store. Maybe it'll be easier in a different program.
Our team finalized our floor plan of the installation. Then, we started to model the installation's rooms on SketchUp (or Unity for one group member's case), and I worked on room #1, The Altered State of Consciousness. Since this is my first time using SketchUp, I ended up having a hard time trying to create something. Nevertheless, I manage to the build the room with a moving walkway and big speakers. Finding the assets and bringing them on SketchUp is annoying at best. Perhaps making the room on Unity or Blender may be better.
