9/29/21 - Refining First-Round Presentations

In this session, we refined the pitch deck for our immersive installation concept.

  1. Today we discussed the feedback we got on our pitch decks. We were able to find more visuals that better portray what we want each of the rooms to look like. We better explained that the guide would really only be needed to lead guests from the lobby to the first room. We also discussed the heart beat connectedness for Room #4, which is intended for participants to be one with themselves. We decided that we do want to keep that feature, but we now have a better case for it. We were thinking that even though you are ‘connected’ to other people, it is still an experience you need to go through personally. By next class, we will try to think of any other ways we can incorporate the smart watch into the first room, but we currently don’t see a need for it.

  2. During today’s class, our group made revisions to our pitch deck based on the feedback we received on 9/27’s class. First we removed our audio slide, and included each bullet point from the slide on their respective slides. Then we removed the use of Arduino because we couldn’t find anything that we would use it for. Next, we added more visuals to clarify what our rooms would look like. We added images of different kinds of lamps and nature based lighting (light structures put together that look like grass, trees, flowers, etc.). Also we added three more images to help show what kind of optical illusions and hypnagogic imagery would be included. Lastly we decided that the smart watches would only be used for room 4, and we tried to think of ways that we would implement these watches in two other rooms.

  3. We revised the deck according to what was addressed during our first presentation. We reordered the slides and took out some to make it a better flow in understanding and sequential pointers. We discussed how to effectively present our ideas and intentions. We fell down a rabbit hole of pretty pictures again, but got back out. We attempted to come up with ideas of how to further incorporate the heart monitor into our other two rooms, but nothing came to mind.

  4. On Wednesday's class, we made some changes to our concept/slide deck based on the feedback we got. One key takeaway was that we needed more specific visuals, so we went on another Pinterest dive - this time focusing on specific installations for the rooms instead of just symbolic/aesthetic photos. We actually ended up resurrecting an old idea we forgot about (stained glass kaleidoscope lamp?) just because it showed up in our search again. We also thought back to some experiences we've visited before - specifically Dream House NYC - and combined their fabric & light installation with some cool references from Annie. By the end of the session we had a much stronger concept, with better visual aids to back it up.
