9/20/2021 - More Work on Finalizing the Concept
We have continued to discuss what the immersive experience will look like as we decide on certain aspects. We have added these details to the concept doc that serves as a starting point for our presentation.
In today’s session, we made really good progress on defining what rest actually means. This was especially helpful because we do want to consider the variations of what rest means to different people. It also allowed us to dedicate certain rooms to specific meanings of rest that serve as a common theme that ties the room together. I think this is a logical approach because we do want to have different rooms, but we don’t want things to get repetitive or boring. I think we’ve organized our thoughts a bit more by defining the rooms with a meaning of rest, rather than trying to craft the same elements in different colors. Choosing that common theme even allowed us to come up with more ideas of what technology the room could contain. We’ve found inspiration with things like sound tunnels and moving walkways, all of which can enhance the immersive experience we want to create. I think we’ve reached a good place in defining the various rooms that are all innovative and interesting in their own way. The next thing we need to tackle is the amount of interactivity the experience should include. Of course, it would be fun to make things interactive and get the participants involved. On the other hand, we are trying to emphasize rest, part of which includes not really doing anything physical. We just need to think about what makes the most sense for participants and not include any overwhelming aspects.
ReplyDeleteWe assessed what we knew and didn't know going forward. We created a new doc to compliment the day's agenda and made a new document for the project. We looked over the broad picture of rest and how that'll be addressed/defined with the different room set up we had in mind. We came up with ideas on finalizing the room and moving groups along as they explore the exhibition. We explored the idea of rest ourselves and came to various definitions that we broadly defined in similar groupings to be expressed in their own rooms. We revisited some ideas we've talked about and came up with three rooms and a lobby. We worked together as a group to discuss the installation.

DeleteOur group made big progress during Monday's session due to us determining what rest means. We listed several definitions of what rest meant to us and this led to the creation of multiple rooms in our installation. We determined that we would have four rooms and each of these rooms have different feelings/give different experiences to visitors. Also, we came up with ways to transition between the rooms. I'm glad we are working as a team because I came up with a working definition for rest that was defined as "a constant state of flow", and the team was able to create a room based on this definition as well. For 9/22's session, we have to determine how interactive we want our rooms to be, what role we want sound to play, and will we use a theme of togetherness in our installation.
ReplyDeleteIn this session we realized we couldn't really move forward without a solid understanding of what "rest" means, so we spent most of our time brainstorming definitions together and trying to find common threads between them. We got enough interesting ideas to make each one its own room, and developed the concept for the lobby a bit more. The agenda provided kind of just made our groupwork harder, so we stuck to doing things our own way. We do like the decision to not suddenly appear in the breakout rooms though!
